In fact, the best part for most attendees (apart from the food!) was the insights provided by our esteemed panelists Abed Tau CA(SA) and Yusuf Bodiat CA(SA) who went above and beyond to engage with the audience and share behind-the-scenes snippets of their unique CA experiences.

Who Are the Panelists:
Abed Tau CA(SA), RA
Abed Tau is a Chartered Accountant by profession, a wannabe chef by night and serial entrepreneur by day.
After serving his articles at Deloitte, he co-founded 3 companies and is most well-known as the Co-Founder and CEO of Thamani Group which encompasses assurance, advisory and consulting arms. Thamani has been responsible for over 100 jobs created to date from launch in 2013.
In 2015 Abed co-founded Tuta-Me, a digital EdTech company dubbed the “Uber” for tutoring which has assisted over 10 000 learners with education support and Abed exited the start-up successfully to a JSE-listed group in 2020.
He also co-founded Silicon Maboneng Jozi in 2015, which focuses on developing technology solutions for medium to large enterprises from app development to full enterprise solutions and is quickly becoming a leader in innovation and digital disruption.
Abed was a SAICA Top-35-Under-35 Finalist in both 2015 and 2017 and is now the youngest judge on the Top-35-Under-35 panel.
Yusuf Bodiat CA(SA)
Yusuf Bodiat is the Chief Financial Officer at FEM, a medium-sized non-life insurance company specializing in workmen’s compensation to the construction industry, with premium income of close to R1 billion and total assets in excess of R8 billion.
His CA journey began in the financial services team at Deloitte, where he continued as an audit manager after completing articles.
Now in his second CFO-role post-articles, he further serves on the Board of the FEM Education Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on making a systemic impact in leadership and education in South Africa about which he is keenly passionate.
He is also an independent non-executive director at Legal Expenses Insurance Southern Africa Limited (LEZA), a registered non-life insurer that provides legal expenses cover.
He has been recognised as a SAICA T0p-35-Under-35 Finalist in 2021 and was a nominee in the CFO South Africa Awards in 2022.
His long-term career goal is to develop into a non-executive director by profession. As part of this goal, he intends on becoming a Chartered Director CD(SA) and he currently holds the designation of Certified Director through the Institute of Directors SA.
Muhammed Ismail Bulbulia CA(SA)
After completing his articles auditing financial services at Deloitte in 2020, Muhammed Ismail Bulbulia wanted to try his own thing which led to the launch of myCAhub – a Proudly South African start-up that creates Software Solutions for CAs(SA).
In just less than two years under his sole directorship, myCAhub has developed several original software solutions for CAs to rave reviews, with their flagship all-in-one CPD Toolkit currently being used by JSE-listed firms, University Accounting Departments and 100s of other CAs for their comprehensive CPD-compliance.
As a nod to the remarkable progress made thus far, myCAhub was selected as a Top 16 finalist in the 2022 Engen Pitch and Polish competition from over 1’000 South African small businesses and Muhammed Ismail was selected as SAICA’s youngest Top-35-Under-35 Finalist in 2022.
At just 28, Muhammed Ismail revels in being a CA entrepreneur and feels as if he is just getting started. He is keen to share his insights and connect with other budding CA(SA) entrepreneurs so we can build tomorrow together!
